Everyone thought Walker was a dead man. And on the Yellowstone ranch, they are usually right.
After breaking his word to leave Montana and never come back, Walker (Ryan Bingham) is dragged back to the barn. His hands are duct-taped, his face is bloody, and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) is ready to take him to the train station. For good.
Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) is the only one who wants to save him. But Kayce knows Walker’s problem:
“I’m on parole, Kayce. I gotta check in every couple weeks. Plus, I’m just running for the rest of my fucking life. What happens when you get in your next bar fight, Walker? Police got you up against the wall. The only thing that you can trade for your fucking freedom is us.”
Rip doesn’t trust him. And he has a point.
“What happens when you get in your next bar fight, Walker? The only thing that you can trade for your fucking freedom is us?”
Kayce then offers Walker a deal that has never been offered before on the ranch. A way to stay, but with a price that is worse than leaving. A price that will put something over Walker’s head forever.
Rip looks at Walker and says the coldest line of the season:
“You’re gonna have to prove yourself, Walker. Beats dying. As far as I see it, that’s the only other option right now.”
What is the deal Kayce is offering? What does Walker have to do to prove himself to Rip? And why does Walker say the Yellowstone is “a magnet for everything that’s wrong in this fucking world”?
