Beth Dutton has always been her father’s daughter, and in this heartbreaking scene from Yellowstone Season 5, her worst nightmare comes true.

The video begins with a chilling execution. A masked hitman counts down “Three, two, one” and shoots a man in a white t-shirt in a bathroom. Blood splatters across the white tiled door. We don’t know who the victim is yet.

Meanwhile, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) is driving alone at night. Her face is tense, tears in her eyes. She suddenly feels something is terribly wrong. She calls her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), who is at the barn.

Rip: “Hey, baby. You make it?”
Beth: “Hey, are you okay?”
Rip: “Yeah, I’m fine. Well, something’s wrong.”

Beth tells Rip she has a bad feeling, she can’t explain it. Rip, worried because she has been driving all night, tells her:

“Honey, I told you to get a room. You’ve been driving all night, your mind starts to play tricks on you.”
“If you get tired, I want you to pull over. You promise?”

Beth promises. They say “I love you” to each other. It feels like a final goodbye.

The scene cuts back to the mansion. A sheriff’s deputy enters with a flashlight, gun drawn, running up the stairs. He finds the body in the bathroom, lying in a pool of blood, a pistol next to his hand.

He radios in, his voice shaking:

“Dispatch, I have a 10-56. Jesus.”
“Can you identify the victim?”
“It’s the governor. Victim is John Dutton.”

The victim is John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the Governor of Montana.

And at that exact moment, miles away in her car, Beth knew. A daughter’s intuition. She couldn’t bear to imagine something happening to her father, and it just did.

This scene marks the most shocking death in Yellowstone history and the beginning of Beth’s war for revenge.
